About Ámaxa

Empowering passionate individuals to make a profound difference in the world.

Lauren McMillen

When I was 16, my teacher Mr. Boyce believed in me. With his mentorship, I raised $10,000 to purchase solar panels for a school in Uganda. This experience taught me how to be impactful, and it changed my life - but only because I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Boyce.

My story highlights a much larger issue: it's too difficult for people who want to make a difference to actually do it. Individuals facing poverty, conflict, and other challenges could be profoundly impacted if more of us knew how to turn our passion into meaningful change.

That's why I founded Amaxa. We're dedicated to empowering the next generation of changemakers, providing them with the tools, resources, and mentorship they need to create lasting positive impact in their communities and beyond.

Together, we can break down the barriers that prevent passionate individuals from making a difference. We believe that everyone has the potential to change the world - they just need the right support and guidance to unlock that potential.

Our Impact and Initiatives

High-Impact Partnerships

Our projects are high-impact, innovative, and community-driven. We have partnered with nonprofits in Palestine, Liberia, and Uganda whose community-founded solutions are innovative in their fields, such as ISNAD Community Center's approach to community-based learning, the first in its area, and the Nyaka School's holistic approach to supporting AIDS-affected communities.

New Initiatives for 2024

Where we spotted gaps in high-impact projects that our members wanted to work on, we created our own. Led by Head of Programs Alexi Jones, we have launched three new initiatives in 2024, focusing on mental health, feminism, and LBGTQ+ representation.

Feminism
LGBTQ+ Representation

Our Mission

Remove Barriers

We connect passionate individuals to high-impact projects, overcoming scheduling conflicts and accessibility issues.

Innovative Projects

We offer unique, community-driven initiatives across 9 global nonprofits and original Ámaxa programs.

Empower Youth

We believe in the power of young people to create real change, treating students as global leaders.

What makes us different

We provide end-to-end support for every step needed to actually effect change.

We match you with a high-impact nonprofit or ámaxa initiative, connect you to a team, and provide a coach to guide you with 1-1 support. We train you in proven project management methods and build features in our web app to solve the problems, however minute, you identify. You drive the impact, and we ensure the tools and support are in place to make it happen.

We are accessible across income and location.

The program is 100% remote, and our members have come from 26 countries. Our annual membership fee is $150, but we offer scholarships to any student in need. Last year, two-thirds of our members received partial or full scholarships.

We are a community.

Our members form friendships on their teams through months of working together. They meet members from our other teams through our remote events, ranging from casual meetups to guest speaker seminars.

We are tech-centered.

Our online platform, designed, build, and deployed by our 16-year-old CTO Ani Chenjeri, is built to solve the specific problems ámaxa teams face. We value our members’ feedback above all and design features directly based on your needs.
