Meet Our Team

Lauren McMillen

Lauren McMillen

Founder and CEO

"When I was 16, my teacher Mr. Boyce believed in me. With his mentorship, I raised $10,000 to purchase solar panels for a school in Uganda. This experience taught me how to be impactful, and it changed my life - but only because I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Boyce. I started amaxa to give to others what Mr. Boyce gave to me."

Lauren, a New York University Abu Dhabi graduate in Computer Science and Arabic, is now pursuing a Master's in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. With a strong foundation in technology and experience in over a dozen non-profits, she's driven by a powerful mission: empowering others to recognize their potential to make a real difference in the world.

Lexi Jones

Head of Programs and Marketing

"The world is a crazy place right now. I love that Amaxa empowers students and young professionals to face it head on, and to come up with creative, innovative and energetic solutions to the problems we are facing. Getting to be a part of the Amaxa team is a chance for me to tell students, young adults and dreamers what I wish I'd been told: 'Your ideas matter and you can make a difference; now let's get started."

Lexi grew up in central Illinois, where cornfields stretch to the horizon and Friday nights are for football. Currently, she is pursuing a degree in International Studies with a Political Science minor at the University of Tampa. Lexi's journey includes internships at CHANGE Illinois and United Way Suncoast, volunteering on the Polish-Ukrainian border, and contributing to the North America for Ukraine leadership team. Driven by a passion for creativity and art, she is focused on using these passions to create real change. As Director of Marketing and Head of Programs at Amaxa, she channels that energy into building impactful programs, crafting compelling pitch decks, and shaping brand identity. Outside of work, she can be found running, reading, or enjoying time with close friends.

I love that we are an organization that extends beyonds borders to facilitate change. I am excited to be on the team and see how far we go!"

Phoebe Cox

Phoebe Cox

Head of Research and Strategy

"As a child, my mother was heavily involved in charity work in China (where I grew up) so I always knew how I could turn my passion into impact by relying on her expertise, support and guidance. When I left China, I found it much harder to figure out how to help or make a difference in my new communities – it is for this reason that I truly believe in amaxa’s mission, as there are so many people with a passion for helping others, who just don’t know how to go about doing so."

Phoebe leverages her psychology background to drive market and user research, bringing valuable insights from her experience in refugee aid, fundraising, research, and copywriting. As co-founder of Bike4Bast, she raised £12,000 for recovery programs and is deeply committed to Amaxa's mission, inspired by her charity work in China and her passion for helping others.
